Good luck to all!

Logo Presentation

This is so late. Here is the logo presentation file. You can find the details for the project at the very last slide. This was made using the Adobe Flash CS4 so you might have to update your Flash Player to make it run properly.

Brochure Project Deadline Extension

flowers

Due to insistent public demand (and the fact that Friday is a holiday), I’m extending the deadline of the brochure project to Thursday (Aug 27) instead of Tuesday.

Project Clarifications

  • I realize that FA has several kinds of brochures lying about, something I wasn’t able to put into consideration. Just make a design for the Information Design brochure and forget the rest.  If you don’t have a copy of the brochure, Download the FA-ID brochure here.
  • Deadline is moved to Thursday, Aug 27.
  • The best brochure design will most likely be adopted by the FA Department. This will be mass produced for distribution next semester. We’re looking at your design being used to promote the Fine Arts Department for the next 5 years or longer. That’s something!

We’re (FA Dept & myself) all looking forward to your designs. Personally, I think the Fine Arts Department of ADMU should have the best looking brochure out there. Management Dept, you’re going DOWN!

Here is the brochure presentation for your reference. For the project, FA has around 3 brochures, only select one of those brochures then redesign it.

Digital Painting Resources for Photoshop

Painting pictures using a computer is no different from painting using a brush. Download this small collection of Adobe Photoshop Actions and Brushes, which assists in the image rendering process.

The zip file includes:

  • Actions. My collection of Photoshop actions which I’ve been using for the past 9 years. I’ve since then modified them over time as the demands for my projects changed.
  • Brushes. Every painted needs brushes, and these are the ones I use to paint all those pretty pictures.

Get it here: Download the collection.

Unfortunately, no tool can show you how to be a great digital painter. You’ll have to find that out on your own. Have fun!

Naming Scheme for Online Submissions

Submitting online projects is a real treat for me since it allows me to collate all of my student’s works and grade them at the same time. But sometimes file names overlap each other, which turns into a real problem especially for students who have the same surname.

As a solution to this problem, I’m proposing a new naming system which what the Editor-in-Chief of smashingmagazine.com calls speaking titles. This naming scheme will be the new standard for all online submissions effective immediately.

Naming Pattern

The pattern looks like this:
[<section>] <project name>-<surname><first letter of first name>.jpg

Sample file names

  • [A] infographic-dizonA.jpg
  • [B] logo-ramosC.jpg
  • [B] brochure-limG.jpg
  • [C] pattern-sonnyR.jpg
  • [A] web-obamaB.jpg

With this naming scheme I can now easily find out where each submission is coming from.

Project name

The project name will be given in class and should always be typed in lowercase format. The lowercase format is the standard for all online file transfers, which is why I am implementing it here.

Infographic files

Always remember the 3 key concepts to realizing a great Concept:

  1. Purpose
  2. Target Market
  3. Execution

Don’t forget to research before everything else.
