Project Extension: My HTML Hates Me!

It happens every now and then. Project extension GRANTED!

New deadline: January 28 midnight

If you’re still wondering what exactly is midnight, it’s one minute after 11:59PM on Jan 28. It can’t get any clearer than that. Don’t forget to scour the web for any helpful tips since it’s hard to tackle every web design concept in class with the time we have. In Rome, do as the Romans do…in this case, Google it!

I’ll be making Tuesday an open day for questions and other stuff you’d like to ask in order to fix your layout. I’m sure you’ve learned by now that it’s not as easy as it looks. But if ever you do, the feeling of doing it right is just absolutely euphoric!

With a bombardment of design comments coming from the client, the only pure thing which they can’t touch is the code itself…so code to your heart’s content! My previous post on The mind of a Web Developer gives you a preview of what lies ahead.

Seniors: Updates on the Presentation

thesis-paper-1

Presentation will be moved to October 7. Show everything you’ve done so far and make it good. Attire will be formal like before.

For those who are wondering, the first version of the Documentation and Design Work will be due the week after that. That paper will comprise 20% of your final grade for the first semester. All finished works and research need to be compiled and ready for submission by October 14. The FINAL thesis  paper won’t be due until the end of the 2nd sem.

The next update will include the venue for the presentation.

Good luck!

Seniors: Preparation for the Exhibit

sesame-street-tagalog

No meeting tomorrow, Sept 16, and on Sept 23. It’s best to get working on the concept art for the final exhibit presentation on Sept 30. I’ll post the details on how to go about the presentation right here.

It’s great that most of your works are beginning to take shape. Now it’s all a matter of being consistent in your designs and true to your thesis goals. Hopefully, by now you already have a firm idea how to go about your thesis.

Leave me a comment if you have any questions or if you want to set a consultation before Sept 30. Good luck!

Seniors: Concept Art Ideas

concept-art

The purpose of the Concept Art is to define which art style is most suitable for which project. Concept art is a form of illustration where the main goal is to convey a visual representation of a design, idea, and mood for use in movies, video games, animation, or comic books before it is put into the final product. Commonly referred to as visual development or concept design, it is one of the foundations of the visual narrative.

For tomorrow’s class, the concept art will serve as your first definitive proof as to how you’re thinking of implementing your thesis. This will also allow you to get a 3rd-party view on your work before you actually get down to doing it.

Class details

  • Meet at 4:30 in G304
  • show me some of the stuff you’ve been working on. Sketches are fine. I’m not really after the Final Art (that’s why it’s called Concept Art)
  • How many do you show? As many as you want. One is fine, 2 is better, but 3 is a designer in the making.

On a side note…

…Graphic Designers everywhere have always had a huge load placed on them by those who can afford their talents. For example, if we know how to illustrate, they expect us to know how to layout a book; and if we know how to design a poster, they also expect us to know how to design a website. The list goes on and on.

Designers have it hard, which must be the reason why only a few of us ever last that long doing the same thing. But if you love a challenge, or if you “love smelling the fear in your enemies’ eyes” before making a pitch for the same account, then you’re in the right place.

Aug12 Presentation Pushing Through

The Aug 12 presentation will push through regardless of whether Fr. Javellana’s class has finished or not. As much as I’d like to postpone it, it’s just not possible now since next wednesday is QC Day, which means another holiday.

Presentation venue: G312
Time:
4:30 – 6:30
Duration: 12-15 mins each

Other people might also be there to watch your presentations so please do your best and remember to dress formally.

Thesis Presentation Date

Since August 5 was made a holiday, the presentation date of Aug 12 might be moved to the following week. Since it’s not yet confirmed, it’s best to assume that the presentation date will still be on Aug 12. Keep checking the site for any updates.
